Genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of thiomersal and paracetamol combination

Background: Thiomersal is used as a preservative of some vaccines or trace from the pathogen inactivation process in vaccine production. Prophylactic use paracetamol upon vaccination still common, even though decreases immune response on vaccines. Considering cytotoxic and genotoxic potential thiomersal possible interaction vivo, vitro study was performed. Methods: The effects combination were examined human lymphocyte cultures by using two methods: analysis chromosomal aberrations cytokinesis-block micronucleus cytome assay. Blood samples three healthy donors analyzed with following concentrations tested substances: 1 µg/ml 0.5 µg/ml, 20 1.0 µg/ml. Results: structural significantly increased all treated cultures.
